1)
Double Click on My
Computer. NOTE: Unless otherwise specified, all “click” requests refer to the LEFT mouse button. |

2) Double Click on Dial-Up Networking (DUN). |

3) Right click on the DUN Connection and select Properties from the drop-down menu. OR Click once on the DUN Connection and then File menu and select properties from the drop-down menu. |

4) Make sure that Use area code and Dialing Properties is NOT checked. (Also known as Use Country Code and Area Code.) Click on the Configure button under the modem. |

5) From the General tab, lower the Maximum speed to 57600*. If it is already set to 57600 you can try 38400. *Dropping the modem speed to 57600 does not lower how fast you connect. This controls the compression rate at which two computers communicate. Lowering the compression rate allows the computers to communicate more effectively. Click on the Connection tab. |

6) The Cancel the call if not connected within... option should NOT be checked. Click on Port Settings button in the lower left of your screen. |

7) To assist in maintaining a more consistent connection, you can lower both the Receive Buffer and Transmit Buffer to the next lower notch (move arrow to the left). Click OK which will return you back to the Connection Tab (Step 6) Click on the Advanced button. |

8) Make sure there is a check in Use flow control, Use error control, and Compress data. Check Hardware if you have a hardware based modem. If not, check Software.
Click OK which will bring you back to the Connection tab. Click OK there to return to the DUN properties. Again, click OK to return to the DUN folder. |
