I do not own a swift as of yet, but I would like to post pics of it here when I get one. Does anyone else think it would be a cool idea to start a swift gallery thread? I figured there might be enough swift owners to start a thread like this. The other "swift folder" thread, although very informative, is a long thread with some nice swift pictures. There is so much dialog in the other swift thread that it is difficult to scan through and find all the pictures. I thought if there was a dedicated swift gallery thread that it would be a good resource of swift photos for people researching the bike. It would also make for good bike porn in general. Any objections?

If you swift owners are into this idea, then start posting your swift photos here!

I will post pics once I get a swift(hopefully by this april).

I'm up for this. I agree that there's a lot of pics in the original Swift folder thread that are lost amidst all the good wholesome content.

Very nice, Zepi.

I like the retro flourishes (particularly the Campag hubs) and the way they are integrated with the bling Nokon cabling/Avid SL lever.

I am surprised you can live with a 28mm Conti Contact Sport on the rear - it provided too harsh a ride for me on a non-suspended folder (good puncture resistance though).

Why don't you get rid of the barely legible Swift decal?

Hey.
I like super harsh rides and my contis are always pumped to 9 bar. It feels incredibly fast forward on the road. The Continental Sport Contacts are totally my cup of tea. And they are bulletproof, as you say.
The Ideale Saddle does a good job and eats most of the bumps. All together it is a very sporty ride...

And, yes, the decal... My steel frame is really ancient and has a lot of patina. The wornout decal kind of fits with it, so I left it on. That makes it a " wi i rolder " ..
As soon as my medium-quality headset and BB start to make trouble, I will take the chance and give the frame a new glossy white powdercoat. That will be the end of " wi i rolder " ...

The more I see these, in all their variations, the more I really like them.

Are there any photos of a folded Swift? I don't recall seeing one. I know that they aren't the smallest of folders but it would be great to see a couple of pics for comparison.

I have a request for a picture. If I knew how to do it I would, but since I don't know how...
In the swift thread there was a group of photos that had the latest/prototype steel swift. Can someone grab those and put them up here? It would make it a lot more accesible instead of searching through the many pages of the swift thread.

And to all those that have posted pics of their swift, awesome, simply awesome. The versitility of this bike is incedible.

Awesome. I thought this thread died. I love the classic look of Zepi's Swift. I will be posting pic of my new Swift when I get it(hopefully in less than a month now!).

I found those images on my harddrive... I do not remember where I have them from.
I think it is some kind of conversion for legal track-racing, which requires a minimum diameter of the wheels...

This fella, Guy Dickinson has posted a fair few of his steel swift on flickr if people want to have a look:

I think these wheels are slightly larger than 20x451. With 451ers you can't directly put a classic race-bike caliper break on.

Here are some words on that from peter reich (I assume it is okay to post it here as this topic seems to be FAQ):

"I have a used Diacompe long-reach dual-pivot caliper
brake that will work with 451s on the steel frames. [...] New Shimano or Tektro 68mm calipers (RAB has these in stock) will work on the front. The 68mm ones just reach, so 65 will be too short and make contact with your tires. Assuming you'll be using traditional drop bars and levers and don't want V-brakes, another option is to use cantilever brakes with 406 rims. "
and
"[...] Tektro has recently introduced a nice long-reach (53-73mm) dual-pivot brake, which I'll be using when a customer requests 451 rims.
The reason I don't lower the rear brake bridge is that it precludes the use of fenders with fat-tired
406 wheels. It's always a juggling act to make one frame accomodate the many options between commuter
and recreational racer, but, thanks to Tektro, I'll be keeping the bridges high on the new frames[...]"

But anyway, I suppose the technical descussion of the swift is better located here (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=83711). Sorry for spoiling the gallery with my long posting.

Nice. How are the Ergon grips?
They're a little bit dirty, it seems. ;)

They work pretty well for me. I use the bar-ends a lot to get different hand positions, which is critical on longer rides.

However, you either have to get a longer handlebar, or switch to a trigger shifter, if you want to use them with bar-ends. You will also have to cut down the right one quite a bit to get it to fit.

What happened to your quick releases?

These bars (http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=/photos/2007/tech/reviews/zipp_vuka_aero/front_view) are next.

I replaced the QRs with MTB seatpost binder bolts. I like the cleaner look.

Ha! You're not allowed to buy upgrades that are worth more than the bike itself ;)

Nothing really unusual about my Swift but it is a great bike (we all know that of course). I have fitted mudguards (fenders) a Fizik saddle, a bar stem which raises the height of the 'bars and Ergon 'bar ends. Luggage is all from Rixen/Kaul. The rest of the set up is standard; 8 SRAM gears, 100psi tyres and standard brakes. I seem to spend more time explaining the bike to other people than riding it!

You have to link them from another site.

Try hosting them on a blog, or a photo site like Flickr. Then make sure you use the (IMG) (/IMG) tags to designate the location. Brackets instead of parenthesis.... if I'd used the brackets in this post, the tags wouldn't have shown.

PS If you take James's photo-post from above, and hit "reply w/quote", take a look at how his post is quoted. You'll see what I'm talking about.

Adding bags to the stock bike doesn't count.

1. Remove reflectors
2. Clipless Pedals
3. Exotic Handlebar selection (preferably mustache)

Then you can repost...

Thought about removing the reflectors - but I live in the UK where the national sport is "Kill A Cyclist". If you wish to murder someone in the UK simply run them over in your car, if they were riding a bike at the time the case probably won't even make the courts. This country is a very dangerous place to live if you use two wheels.

I have tried a variety of clipless pedals (SPD type) on my collection of bikes and have suffered from numb toes and cramp in my feet. I don't have a problem using them, I just don't like to suffer for fashion. I went back to the old fashioned toe clips and straps and have had no problems at all. I do not tighten the straps very much - just enough to prevent my feet from moving on the pedals. This means I can cycle in any comfortable footwear, walk properly, and comply with UK law by having reflectors on my pedals. Clipless Pedals are no doubt fine for racing but I am a leisure rider and am more than happy with my "Grandad" pedals - come to think of it - I am a grandad!

As for the 'bars; I like the straight ones that came with the bike. I have curly ones on my lightweight racing models and my trusty steel framed tourer, so the flat bars (fitted with Ergon 'bar ends) make a nice change.

The photo I submitted was one I took just after I bought the bike and I was experimenting (with the photo) to see if I could post it on this site which is why the bike is pretty much standard. I have been very impressed with some of the customising that Swifters have done to their steeds but I am happy with my current set up.

Is your bike blue or purple. It seems unable to decide!

jur

My Swift frame has the same tendency to play chameleon between blue & purple. I natural light it seems deep blue but there are definite puple components in there that get emphasized under certain color temperatures and/or spectral composition. No doubt you know all about this sort of stuff.

Paul Braithwait

Is your bike blue or purple. It seems unable to decide!

It is blue, but you're right under some lighting conditions it looks purple. It must be that shade of blue that does it because I sold a conventional racing frame, of the same colour, by advertising it in a cycling magazine and when they printed the photo it came out purple. The first photo of the Swift leaning against the stone wall is pretty accurate colour-wise.

Don't let them unsell your old-school pedals. Pedals of this kind are still used in track-racing competitions and have many advantages, both in sport and casual riding. (Some people just can't handle them)
I find them definetely NOT grandpa-style!

BTHW: I use a nice cristophe pedal stap to protect my trowsers from the wildly spinning chainring. That works perfect and looks much prettier than the usual neon-plastic straps or just pulling the edge of my trowsers into the socks.

Update.
I mounted straight handlebars with some neat leather-grips that match with the Ideale seat.
Also an antique 167,5mm Campagnolo Pista Crank with a big 54T pista chainring.

I got the Surly chaintug for $23 from here. (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/RD402Z01-Surly+Tugnutt+Chain+Tensioner.aspx)

The brake lever is from Nashbar (http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=69&subcategory=1015&brand=&sku=10888&storetype=&estoreid=&pagename=Shop%20by%20Subcat%3A%20Brake%20Accessories) (got it for $12 on sale). The pull doesn't match the V-brake, but since I prefer to skid/skip to stop on my fixie, perfection with the front brake action doesn't really matter that much to me. ;)
