OPERATION SHOEBOX
The Saddleback Kiwanis Club gave Emily Johnson, 10, the "Making a Difference" award for her dedication to sending boxes of goods and supplies to needy people around the world. Johnson, a fourth grade student at Del Cerro Elementary School in Mission Viejo, saves cans, bottles, birthday money and loose change and then uses the funds to fill boxes in Operation Shoebox. The ministry is sponsored through Samaritan's Purse and Saddleback Church.
Johnson also earns behavior points at school and then spends them on toys at the school store to fill her boxes. Last year, she managed to fill 17 boxes, said her father Chris Johnson.
