|
|
I've tried every which way to update the BIOS on my GA-K8NXP-SLI board to
enable me to upgrade to an AMD dual core cpu.
@BIOS is very flaky and when it does succeed the computer gives long beeps
ie the bios is frizzed. Luckily dual bios means I can go back to F6 version
and try again. Making a DOS disk produces same result and so does Q Flash
The updated bios according to Gigabyte is F11. Is it me that's missing a
trick or is this bios file from Gigabyte no good?
Thanks

F6 works fine for me with AMD dual core
There is nothing shown in the bios update that requires such for dual core
What is it you think you are missing?

Thanks for the input. It sounds like you know what I'm chuntering about.
Looking at Gigabytes CPU support list it shows AMD 4200 Dual core is
suitable only from bios F9 (I can't see where there is an F9 bios but that
may be me) I'm led to believe that a dual core cpu will only run as a single
core with F6. Does yours show both cores? If so then problem solved and I've
been given some duff info.
Many thanks

My misread, I'm using the K8N ultra.
I checked the Gigabyte CPU support list and I see you are correct, it
mentions F9 bios, but there is no download for it shown for your mobo
Global site also doesnt list F9
When you flashed, successfully, you loaded bios defaults?
What were the beep codes?
Tried going from F6 to F7 with what result? or to F10?
I think I would be tempted to contact Gig.tech support

Many thanks for the reply, the problem is now solved. It seems that with my
board flashing the bios will always fail if all the memory slots are full. I
have four sticks of 512 dual ddr400. I removed two of them and @bios flashed
me to F11 in less than a minute. Reboot, fine, shut down, install second meg
of memory and everything works just as it should.
I'm a happy bunny again.
Thanks again
