And worth every penny of £58.50.

Are you sure someone in the far east isn't producing Goldmund knock-offs using Pioneer internals ?

After all there are fakes for all other "designer" stuff. (Handbags, perfume etc etc)

Hi,

Goldmund use a cheap Pioneer universal player for their players. They claim to have tweaked them.

from the Goldmund website,

the SRDVD Multi-format Player (on the lower picture above). Replaces the Easy DVD. Uses the latest multi-format transport technology from Pioneer. Optimized by using Goldmund circuit to playback CDs with highest sound quality. Plays SACD, DVD Audio and MP3 discs. Analogue inputs including multi-channel. Size 44x30x6.5cm.

This is not too critical we hope but we have no legal right and no way to cancel the Pioneer logo that may appear on the menu of the SRDVD when used in Video. The real basic reason is that we buy from Pioneer not only the transport mechanism, but in the same time, all the DVD rights attached. These rights, in fact, Pioneer has paid them for us. Legally we have no other way to prove it. Very sorry for those who complained about it.

From info on a $75,000 Goldmund Eidos Reference player,

"Transport Mechanism using a Pioneer 747 mechanism heavily
modified with structural "Mechanical Grounding" implementation
and Goldmund clamping technology. Transport motor and lens
mechanism rigidly assembled on a 5mm thick aluminum plate
with brass counterweight and Mechanical Grounding stainless
steel rotational evacuation with spring-loaded balancing."

The worst thing is that some mug will buy one on the basis of a magazine review and actually believe that it wipes the floor with a perfectly good Pioneer.

Things were bad in the 80s & 90s with Beltism, thin solid core wire and the birth of the Stand industry, but what is happening today is truly disgraceful and borders on fraud IMO.

Many manufacturers do similar as it's not viable to get tooled up to make their own transports etc. That's what Proceed attempted and failed to do. Allegedly. What is annoying, however, is the amount charged for such modifications.
