Chanvit wants point

Tor Chittinand

Thailand are hoping for a point from their first match in the third round of the World Cup Asian qualifying round against Japan on Wednesday in Saitama.

The team jetted off for Japan yesterday but coach Chanvit Phalajivin said he had been forced to reshuffle his squad because of injuries.

Defenders Kiatprawut Saiwaew, Prat Samakrat and Jetsada Jitsawad have been ruled out while Datsakorn Thonglao is struggling with a pulled muscle.

Teerathep Winothai and Sarayuth Chaikamdee will start up front but Chanvit said he will wait until the last minute before submiting the names of the fittest 18 players in the final squad.More than 60,000 Japanese fans are expected to attend the Group B game.

"The atmosphere won't make it easy but we are aiming to get a point," said Chanvit. Oman and Bahrain make up Group B.
