Bill Breukelman

Bill has owned, founded and funded numerous businesses in the high-tech field, with a particular interest on visualization and interpretation.  He is a pioneer in imaging, having been a principal and later chairman of IMAX Corporation from 1970 to 1995.  Under his and his ‘partners’ leadership, IMAX grew into a globally branded entertainment company with production and distribution of over 100 films and 100 theatre operations in 18 countries. 


He was also a co-founder and former President of Sciex Corporation, a provider of high speed and ultra trace analytical instrumentation with yearly sales exceeding $600 million.  Sciex has become a core asset of MDS Inc., a health and management company with a market capitalization of $2 billion. 


As chairman and principal of Business Arts Inc., a high-tech incubation and investment firm, he supports its funding and co-development activities.  The company is committed to the creation and development of transforming corporations focused upon building sustainable and breakthrough shareholder value.  Its investment interests include MDS SCIEX (a worldwide molecular imaging company), Arius3D (a high resolution surface imaging company), Cedara Software (a medical imaging company), as well as GEDEX™ (a geological imaging and discovery company),  


Bill has a long history with the oil business and has been a director of a number of junior exploration companies.  He is currently a director of Fortune Minerals, an exploration and development company focused upon the assembly and development of high quality mineral and energy resource assets.

David Breukelman

David is the President of Business Arts and has been since its inception.  David is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of Arius3D and Lead Director of Gedex Inc.


David graduated with a M.B.A. from The University of Western Ontario where he earned scholarships and an exchange student position with Erasmus University in the Netherlands.  While living in Holland, David also consulted to Van Nelle foods and The Vara, a Dutch media organization.


Upon graduation, David joined The Bank of Nova Scotia where he rose through various positions in International Corporate & Government Banking and the Risk Management side of Treasury.  He then joined Bank of America to head their Risk Management and Derivatives operation in Canada. 


David and his family have helped found and built some of Canada’s most innovative technology companies including Sciex, Imax and a part of what became BCE Emergis.  This latter firm, Magic Online, was Chaired by David throughout its turnaround, growth (including a doubling of its size via acquisition) and sale to the firm that later evolved into BCE Emergis.  David has been involved in the turnaround and growth of several other Canadian successes and is presently Chairman of Arius3D, the world’s most advanced 3-dimensional color imaging solution.  David is also Lead Director of Gedex Inc. the world’s most advanced corporation focused on gravity gradiometry.


David has served as a director of a number of companies (Both Canadian and American) as well as Canada’s Royal Conservatory of Music.  He has several financial designations and lives on a small, Ontario Christmas tree farm with his wife, Kathy and three children.

Elaine Netherton

Elaine Netherton serves as Vice-President, Investments for Business Arts.  She has combined investment skills with her background in psychology to evolve a unique approach and understanding of business and the investment world.  Elaine has, over the years, honed a competitive streak that keeps her focused on overcoming challenges and delivering success. 


Elaine has a passion for living things, accentuated by years of top level equestrian pursuits.

Jim McGlone

Jim has extensive financial management experience in rapid growth and public company environments.


Prior to joining Business Arts in 1996, he served as Director and CFO for the Ondaatje Corporation, a company focused on strategic international banking, corporate finance and asset management. He was the CFO of an institutional investment banker operating in key North American and European markets between 1990 and 1992.


Jim presently serves as CFO of Arius3D and is an ongoing advisor to Business Arts on financial, structuring, management and transactional issues.


Jim lives north of Toronto with his wife, Patty and two children.

Jason Netherton

Jason Netherton serves Business Arts in both Marketing and Business Development capacities.  He delivers a deep and personal level of involvement to any project he becomes involved with.  His training in marketing and in the hospitality fields, coupled with his energy and a unique ability to listen and distill, serve the company well.


Mr Netherton has delivered strong business connections in Japan, China, Europe and the US. He succeeds at developing new concepts and is constantly and positively, challenging convention.  Mr. Netherton enjoys diversions of deep concentration and strategy including chess, war game tactics, fishing and his love, competitive pocket billiards.


He is married and owns two outrageous cats.

Marion Miret

Ms. Breukelman is Vice-President at IBK Capital.  Prior to joining IBK Capital, she was an Account Manager at The Toronto-Dominion Bank, where she worked on various corporate and real estate loan portfolios.  Earlier in her career, she was a strategic consultant to IMAX Corporation.  Marion provides ongoing consulting and support to the Business Arts team.


Ms. Breukelman attended the Banff School of Fine Arts, graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Toronto (1986), and with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario (1989).
