The Japanese should be ashamed of themselves. There is no reason in this day and age to hunt those incredible animals.

Paul Watson is an egotistical criminal, the Int'l Whaling Commission censured him and disassociated themselves from his criminal actions in the 90's. Greenspeace tossed the violent SOB out it the early 70's. He fancies himself a modern day pirate and gets naive environmentalists to cough up $1000 a week to be part of his crew.

He has sunk ships engaged in legal fishing.

He had a large "can opener" welded to the bow of the ship. When he kills someone or gets members of his "crew" killed I hope he will be remembered as a criminal and not some modern day hero.

Like fundamentalist terrorists he believes he answers to a higher authority and the end justifies the means. If someone dies he believes they had it coming to them.

He isn't stopping whaling, he's just living his fantasy.

Good for them. Sea Sheppard is doing great work that no one else will do. It is horrible and barbaric to be whaling especially when it is totally so wasteful. THe Japanese have most of the meat in freezers because there is no market for it. It is well overdue for humans to respect other life on the planet.

Good for him. Id like to see a few whaling ships go to the bottom.
Welded a can opener to the hull, smart guy. I guess its legal fishing untill all the fish are gone.

Australia and New Zealand should start welcoming Japanese flights to our countries with protests..

Japanese off these flights should see that they are not welcome unless they put pressure on their own government to stop whaling and the dolphin killing.

I think signs with graphic pictures of what is happening and text in both Japanese and English would be a great way to welcome them - since so many come to our shores to see our beautiful natural countries which we work hard to protect!

did anyone annoy animals more than irwin?

he molested them (not sexually, of course) for the entertainment of many, he built his career on it

he'd be the last guy i would think animal people would choose for canonization

Naming an ocean vessel after someone that died in the ocean....yeah, good one!

While it floats...tempting fate.
When it sinks....irony.

I guess if the Japs name all their boats "Stingray" the "Steve Irwin" won't go within 'cooee' of them.

But seriously, the Japs should stop.

can't you say any objective opinions for anti-whaling? IWC reported there were about 740,000 minke whales in the Southern Hemesphere in 80's.
and the scientist group of the IWC decleared its population was enough to re-start commercial whaling (however it was ignored by whaling countries in general meeting).

If you think whales are wonderful, then you don't need to catch them. Cows are regarded as a sacred cow in India but they do not protest to others.
can't you imitate them and stop forcing your opinion?

Did you ever see a cow on the endagered species list!?

The Japs say they hunt whales for "research"...funny how it always ends up on dinner plates.

I reckon I could boil up some lard, throw in some gelatine crystals for the jiggly texture, seafood stock cubes for flavour, put it in the fridge to set, chuck it in the microwave for 2 minutes, throw on a fish sauce and a twig of parsley and sell it to the japs for $500/kg and they wouldn't know the bloody diffrence!

That's the thing with japs, they'd eat the arsehole of a sun dried octopus if you told them it would give longer life or afrodisiac qualities!

Correct, they should be civilized like us and only eat pigs, cows, chickens and fish...who do they think they are!

Pretty soon you'll all be asking where are our cute little penguins. We love them so much we made 200 movies about them last year. Those whales eat the majority of their fish, but that's ok we'll just blame humans and global warming when all the penguins are gone.

I wrote there were 740,000 minke whales in 80's, but it is incorrect.
761,000 is correct, anyway.
this estimation is old, but I believe it is more reliable and fairer than studies which are released by whaling countries or anti-whaling countries.

according to IWC's estimation in 1988/89, the lower bound of 95% confident interval of the population and its annual increment were 510,000 and 3.8%, respectively. to calculate them roughly, the current least population is estimated to be about 1 million, and it increases about 38,000 annually. Japan plans to catch just below 1,000 minke whales in the Southern Hemisphere. do you still think the whaling influences badly upon recovering minke whale population? do you still think minke whale is threatened species?

and any parts of whales, which are caught for researching purpose, should be utilized as much as possible. this is a responsibility for permitted countries according to Article VIII 2 of the ICRW (International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling). or do you think the all parts of whales should be thrown away after researching?

I know you are joking, right? why can you decide what others can eat? I believe that is not called "civilization", it is called as "ethnocentrism" or other discrimination.

and why can you choose which animals should be eaten, and which are not? this is called "speciesism"

please tell me your "objective" opinion for anti-whaling. nobody can be satisfied by your "discriminatory" opinion.

As far as research goes, I hope there are no diabetics out there, that are horrified by research out there, on the ever growing population of these whales, because most of you wouldn't be reading this right now if all animal research had come to a halt before the extraction of insulin from animals. Now they use human insulin which is wonderful. But before that all insulin came from pork and beef. So thank a cow or a pig today, but most of all thank the researchers that saved your life, limbs, kidneys and eyesight. I for one am grateful, because I have Diabetes type 1. Developed as a child, before insulin, most of them never saw adulthood. Now they live healthy lives. Next I'll hear how the people that developed diabetes because of diet " the fat bastards deserved it." Between the tiger and the whales I'm starting to believe this is a PETA site.

THIS PARASITIC GROUP OF JAPS SHOULD BE EXPOSED AND CENSURED. IT WOULD ONLY WORK IN THEIR CULTURE. ( THE HONOR THING).
