TOUR TO MAN CITY
TOR CHITTINAND
Manchester _ The Thai national team lost 4-3 to Manchester City's Under-18 side in a warm-up match at the club's academy on Tuesday. Playing in cold and wet conditions, Thailand, who had arrived in Manchester two days earlier, got goals from Teerasil Dangda, Pipat Tonkanya and Arthit Sunthornpit.
The match was part of Thailand's preparations for their World Cup qualifier in Japan on February 6. They will be training there for around two weeks.
Thailand had originally scheduled to play Conference side Altrincham on Tuesday but the match was forced to be cancelled by the muddy pitch as a result of rain.
Thailand coach Chanvit Phalajivin said he was not too serious about the result as his men were adapting to the weather. But he admitted his team needed improvement in several areas.
Jim Cassell, Manchester City Academy director, said the warm-up was good for both sides who produced good quality of football.
''Thailand have good technique but they have to improve their defence,'' he said.
''They still have to learn about the English style of football.''
Cassell said he and his staff would help analyse video tapes of Japan's and Thailand's matches.
