Life of a Small Town Photographer

Showing in pictures, the life of a small town freelance photojournalist living in rural Cambria County Pennsylvania. Most of the photographs are things I shoot just because they happen to trip my trigger. This blog started out as a way to connect friends and family who no longer live in the area with their hometowns. The site is now enjoyed by many from the Northern Cambria area, including military personnel and college students.

My Photo
Name: Biker1100
Location: Hastings, Pennsylvania, United States

I'm a Retired Marine, Vietnam Vet and Biker. I work as a free-lance photographer for several media outlets in the Cambria and Blair County area of Southcentral Pennsylvania. I cover the small towns and cross-road villages in this rural part of Pennsylvania. When asked about my style, I like to refer to myself as an eclectic realist working in the old-school photojournalistic tradition. I sold my first photograph in 1967 to a brother Marine for $2 while we were stationed at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. My basic equipment consists of 2 Canon Rebel SLR digital cameras and 2 L Series lenses: a f/2.8 24-70mm and a f/2.8 70-200mm. If you are originally from the Northern Cambria area or just like what you see, please leave a comment, we like to hear from you. If you would like to purchase a print, email us dollhaus@verizon.net or see our commercial site - http://www.greggdollphotography.com.

We're All Americans

These four photographs are from an American Legion League baseball playoff game between the Bedford, PA Hurricanes and the Saints of Saint Michaels, PA. The first two shots are shown in order and cover a time span of 1.04 seconds, between when the ball left the pitcher's hand and reached the plate.

This swing was somewhat controversial as to whether it was a ball or a strike. The on field umpire called it a ball, the umpires who occupy the bleachers were yelling for a strike. You be the judge.

Obviously, this ball player is out. No controversy here.

Bedford runner is out at second. That will teach you to steal.

This is the 10th Annual Native American Pow-Wow held at DelGrosso's Amusement Park in Tipton, PA, Blair County. It was nice to see old acquaintances and make new ones. We don't usually identify children who appear on the blog, so you'll notice many of the captions are basic.

Opening ceremony for the Native American Pow-Wow held at DelGrosso's Amusement Park. As you can see, there was a large crowd on hand on Saturday.

Once again, it's time for the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department Duck Race. This is one of the company's major fundraisers and it is well suppported by the whole community.

Hastings Volunteer Fire Department Duck Herders. Every year Brubaker Creek is dammed up so, hopefully, sufficient water will float our ducks. If that doesn't work we have a tanker truck standing by that can dump enough water into the creek to make sure that the little duckies will have enough water to reach their final destination which is about two blocks from the start.

A crowd gathers on a bridge about half way to the finish line.

At the end of the race, the first nine ducks are pulled out. They, as well as the owner of the last duck across the line, win a cash prize.

A Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Historical Marker was placed on the Burbaker Lane Walking Trail to commemorate the UMWA-Distric 2 Labor Chautauquas held in Hastings in 1925.
