Subject: The Thief of Bangladesh

This is Gold Unit. We've been following Mercury for 9 days. Picked up his trail in Myanmar. He was nosing around a Naga tribe that supposedly descended from headhunters, but in the middle of the night he just took off and headed toward the border into Bangladesh.

It didn't take long to pick up his tail. He made it easy. Kept stopping in small towns along the way. He's got to be looking for the Nipah virus  -- an advanced strain killed a bunch of Bangladeshis in these towns a couple of years ago. But it's been gone for a while.

This morning Mercury lost us. We got a report from a local contact that he had reached Thakurgaon, a district capital near the border with India.

By the time we get to the Thakurgaon Police Station -- where our contact said to meet -- everything's gone nuts.

Bangladeshi cops are streaming out of the station, waving guns around and shouting.
 
Our contact is almost hysterical.

He claims that twenty minutes before, Mercury was walking in the middle of the street and he just stopped, dead in his tracks, right in front of the Thakurgaon Police Station.

Then he strolled straight inside.

Of course, our contact's wondering what to do ... mission protocol dictates that he stay back, rather than reveal himself.
 
It only takes about a minute for the situation to hit meltdown.
 
Our guy hears shouting inside, then gunshots. Then cops spilling out of the building like it's on fire.
 
They keep yelling, "He took it! He took the death rock!"
 
They say it came down a couple of months ago. Apparently, weird things started happening right after it struck. Local authorities decided they had to keep the rock in the police station, for safety.

Our contact has a friend on the police force -- according to him, Mercury barged into the station, walked up to the evidence cage, and just started staring at the meteor rock. 
 
That's when the cage started melting. 
 
Apparently, Mercury burned a hole about the size of a basketball into the fence with his eyes.

We had our artist render a version of it based on the cop's account:

We'd think our guy was crazy if we couldn't see the hole, still smoking right in front of us.

It gets more difficult to explain with logic.  According to the cop we talked to, Mercury took the rock out of the cage.

He held it out in front of him -- and all the cops are freaking out.  Because it starts melting into Mercury's hand..  Like he absorbed it into his own body.

The artist didn't even know what to do with this, but he gave it a shot and our contact concurred with the result...
 

Mercury's gone. Disappeared without so much as a whisper. 

The cops keep shaking their heads and talking under their breath.

It sounds like they're saying, "Shoyt an."   
 
We're pretty sure that means "devil." 
 
A dispatch just came in over the radio -- sounds like they had a sighting of Shoyt An heading across the border into northern India.

We're on our way. And we're going to find out exactly what's going on.

Subject: Code to Decipher

Mr. Beppo, I understand our mutual friend has been in touch with you regarding our endeavors in Honduras and elsewhere.  I have attached an image that I suspect will be of great interest to you.  Much of the iconography feels familiar, but there are some startling elements that I simply cannot explain.  Knowing what we know about the Mayan culture, I can only assume that almost everything on this stone tablet bears some significance to our project and to the world at large.

Thanks for looking this over, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.  As I am en route to my next destination already, you may respond via this blog.

Subject: Unexplainable Imagery from Reunion

We are camped on a small island in the Indian Ocean.  We came upon some villagers who claim to have made contact with our target.  The father of these two little girls, who are both suffering from the debilitating Chikungunya virus, which we discovered is devastating many residents of La Réunion, said his daughters awoke in the middle of the night and were paralyzed with fear upon finding "croquemitaine" in their bedroom.  Here’s what the girls both claim they saw, as described to our team’s artist...

Of course, it’s hard to call this conclusive evidence as both girls are heavily medicated, quite sick and it was the middle of the night.  But their descriptions of Mercury were spot on and they both swear they saw his hand form into a syringe.  Obviously, delirium and trauma have clouded their perception.  But they did have the fresh needle marks to prove that blood had recently been taken.

Anyone else seen him do anything like this?

Subject: VIDEO FROM HONDURAS

Mr. Luthor, we arrived in Honduras this morning and made contact with Hancock and Red Unit. Although we know Mercury left here over two weeks ago, Hancock insisted on retracing the target's steps by interviewing some of the locals and examining natural and manmade structures. All roads led them to the location from which Hancock filed this video report.

Thank you for mobilizing on such short notice for this project. As you have no doubt been advised by your team leaders, breaking the seal on your mission documents has obligated you to the strictest confidentiality.  Your only means of communication with me will be via this blog. Mr. Luthor and members of his scientific team will also be monitoring the proceedings through the blog, video updates from me and the chief archaeologist, and the images you upload.

The target is code-named Mercury. 

Originally believed to be a CIA agent, Mercury is working in conjunction with LuthorCorp on a black-ops mission to gather deadly viruses from all corners of the Earth in order to create a supervaccine under contract for the government.  LuthorCorp has reason to suspect, however, that not only is Mercury not CIA, but he may be betraying us for personal gain. We have already observed him circumnavigating the globe at an astonishing pace, sometimes seeming to appear in two or more places at once, and his lack of cooperation and proper communication has alarmed the project managers.

Your mission is to track Mercury to all locations he visits, covertly monitor his activities and collect evidence of malfeasance.  Due to Mercury's inhumanly rapid movements, we have established four teams to effectively cover the planet over the course of the next several weeks.  Red Team is already on the ground in Honduras.  Gold Team is tracking its target through the Asian subcontinent.  Blue will move in a southwesterly direction beginning near the Tasman Sea.  And Grey Unit is en route to an as-yet-undetermined location near the coast of Mozambique.

You will report back to this journal regarding any unusual activity you witness.  But you are to keep your distance from Mercury at all times.  Do not make contact with him, and avoid detection at all costs.

Periodically, the lead scientist from our vaccine production program will also report in to this blog, allowing us all to remain on the same page.  The only persons with access to this site are Mr. Luthor, myself, the LuthorCorp scientists and you.  We will look forward to hearing of your progress.
