Having been slotted in Group B along with regional powerhouse Japan, Oman and Bahrain, the Thai team, who overcame Macau and Yemen in the previous rounds, face a baptism of fire with an away tie to the Japanese on February 6.
To increase their chances of qualification for the final qualifying round, the Thai side, who will head off on Saturday for a two-week training camp at the City, will seek assistance from the club owned by former primier Thaksin Shinawatra to help them examine their opponents.
"The City officials will help us analyse the opposition tactics by using the same advanced methods top clubs employ. It will give a thorough analysis of how they play and where their strengths and weaknesses lie," said Worawi Makudi, president of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT).
All except Datsakorn Thonglao, Nirut Surasiang and Sutee Suksomkit, who ply their trade overseas, reported for training yesterday.
