Guitar Hero Rigged up to Christmas Lights

Thu, 27 Dec 2007 15:59:34 +0000

Sometimes, people like to express their Christmas spirit is creative ways. Some write letters, some go all out on wrapping a gift, and other create elaborate decorative displays. The guys over at VI Road Show already went a little overboard with the amount of lights they strung up around their office, but then they went the extra mile and hooked them all up to Guitar Hero. Basically, strumming the right notes causes different lights to blink, while strumming the wrong ones lights up a trash can. There’s also a batch of lights simply keeping the beat of the song. Now if someone could just do this with a whole house…

Ah, Christmas. A time for giving, caring, and kids going absolutely nuts over a new game console. This may not be as funny (or disturbing) as the classic video of the two kids getting a Nintendo 64, but it’s still entertaining nonetheless. It begins with a little girl saying she’s too full to eat anything and ends with that same girl screaming “You got it! You got it!” Aw, it’s like an amateur Xbox commercial.

Portal Done LEGO Style

Thu, 27 Dec 2007 03:47:56 +0000

It was bound to happen. I don’t know why, but LEGO bricks and video games seem to go hand-in-hand for a lot of people. So I guess it was inevitable that someone would recreate scenes from the phenomenal Portal using the colorful blocks as a medium. You can see a few more images of a LEGO-style Portal over at Brickshelf.

December 26th is really the time for memories of the day before (well, that and crazy crowds at the malls). Most of them are good, but sometimes there are memories just so strange and ridiculous that even the mainstream news covers them. In Camarillo, California, a 13-year old boy tore open a gift on Christmas morning to discover a brand new PS3. But instead of happily hooking up the machine and settling into a nice game of Skate, he opened the box to discover a phone book along with the usual cords and controller found inside. The boy was mostly amused, but the parents weren’t, since they’d paid about $400 for a box with a phone book. They apparently purchased it from an EB Games in a nearby mall, so they’ll be heading back there to return it as soon as they get the chance. Their best guess is an employee decided they wanted to swipe a PS3, though they’re going to have some trouble playing it without all the cords and such. You can watch the video report of the whole ordeal here.

to Public

Thu, 27 Dec 2007 00:39:16 +0000

Awhile back, we mentioned that a Playstation emulator for the iPhone was currently in the works, with a public beta test planned soon. Well, that beta test has arrived, meaning you can get yourself a PSX emulator for your iPhone or iPod Touch right now. Be sure to pay attention to the instructions closely though when installing it, since it has to be done manually. But then you can start figuring out which games work best on Apple’s little gadget, like Final Fantasy Tactics (above). According to the creators though, the program should work for the majority of Playstation games out there, though they aren’t sure which ones specifically — they’re currently compiling a list of compatible games in their forum. It could be a little tricky playing games with a the on-screen controller, but if you want to try it out for yourself, you can head over here for instructions on getting the program.

Free HD BioShock Strategy Videos

Wed, 26 Dec 2007 22:11:10 +0000

If you’ve just picked up or received BioShock, you might want to take a look at the Xbox Live Marketplace for six HD videos from BradyGames that will help you locate all of the game’s audio diaries. Finding the audio diaries is definitely something I’d recommend, as they really do a good job of fleshing out the backstory of the game, which would otherwise go largely unmentioned.
