Well, annian, I couldn't find anything on the internet for these error messages.

I suspect you are right with the problem being hardware related; the closest info I found was a soundcard conflict, but it was not the exact error messages you've recieved. I'm sending this off to Win98 because I think you'll have better luck with folks that can better understand registery problems. Good luck. :)

annian, do you still have this problem if you
boot in Safe Mode and then shutdown ?

my two cents...

Win98Se is known for having shut down problems. There are a multitude of troubleshooting techniques available from the MS website, but it has been my experience (supporting over 1000 systems with Win98 SE) to just ignore it unless it is causing major problems. Microsoft does have a patch for the problem that appears to help, but it is not a permanent fix. Updating the DAT files on the system could stop it from shutting down properly again. For alot of our users we either copy the patch to their desktop or tell them to just power off and go through the scan disk upon the restart or exit from it. We have not had any serious problems with this approach.

Hi,
Often happens in 98se.

I`ve seen the restart in Safe mode tip from Jo-Cose work.

I`ve seen the patch for 98SE shutdown:
<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/contents/WURecommended/S_WUFeatured/Win98SE/Default.asp" target="_blank">Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement</a>work

or
MSconfig--Advanced
and tick the 'Disable fast shutdown' box.

And I often do what pcheather suggests, if it is the hang at shutdown....ignore it :)
But the reboot part is a pain.

The Bootlog.txt entries, I`m not sure where they come from.
But they are on the 3 diffrent machines here.
I think they are normal.

Are they the same in 'Bootlog.prv'

A couple of BootLog tools:
Bootlog Examiner <a href="http://members.aol.com/xqxsetup/ble.zip" target="_blank">http://members.aol.com/xqxsetup/ble.zip</a>
and
Boot Log Analyser <a href="http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/" target="_blank">http://www.vision4.dial.pipex.com/</a>
