Anyway, what I really came into this thread for was to ask: Is it just me, or does C-ute get styled way more maturely than Berryz? Don't get me wrong, I really like both groups and this isn't a C-ute hate post, but I think it's fairly obvious that they are being marketed in a much more mainstream, "hip" way than Berryz ever was.

I applaud C-ute's success and their songs are amazing. I only wish I could see the BK girls in a similar style once in a while, instead of cutesy costumes every single (or VERY BEAUTY hobo clown clothes) Confused Like Mr. Z elaborated, I'm not hoping for BK to become some international overnight sensation, it's just a personal preference of how I would like to see BK styled, every now and again, based on my belief in their potential to pull it off with flying colors. That's HP for ya. I'll still support them both.

I still find it shocking how C-ute changed in less than three years (the time that Berryz has been around) :

C-ute's success wouldn't be as good if they were labeled as "the HPK group", like once Berryz was... but eventually people recognised them as "Berryz Koubou" (imo, this achievement was mainly because of the chemistry between them and the confidence they shown, something that C-ute lacked TERRIBLY in their early days). C-ute has quickly progressed because of the promo they got (TV show, radioshow, a stable section in a magazine -all of this before they officially debuted-), they've been and are a busy group, but since Berryz gained a somewhat 'loyal' fanbase (concerts are always sold out, Berryz PBs always place high in rankings, but they're yet to break the 25k mark), I think they're gonna keep the Berryz as we know them now.

There's been quite some talk on the topic of C-ute going to Kouhaku and Berryz being their backdancers. Those are purely rumours, but I find them amusing. I mean, Berryz started as W backdancers...

Not really. I'm into H!P because I find them damn entertaining. My only point was that H!P anime tie-ins are mostly lame and it bugs me that some upstart project immediately gets hooked up with high quality anime.

Ah yes of course, they win on the overall package. I guess my point was they could improve the individual elements that comprise that overall package -- like the anime tie-ins. And you said it best that it sucks that they've been doing anime tie-ins yet some upstart group does it better. Sad

they are stuck forever with TVTokyo. Robi, Kirarin, Shugo Chara, Haromoni are TVTokyo.

It's not a bad thing to be stuck with tv tokyo (bleach, naruto, etc.). What's bad is to be stuck with the crappy anime of tv tokyo. Smile

Their music fits those type of animes, unlike AKB's. They're trying to target younger girls. I also violently am against the entrance of idols into voice acting - professionally trained VA's aren't that great, but I've gotten a new appreciation after watching Kirarin Revolution and I have nothing against Koharu.

I'm thinking your comment is because you're not an anime watcher? (not sure). There are plenty of good anime that target young girls like haruhi suzumiya, azumanga daioh, etc. If they can ony do a tie-in with passable anime like fushigi yuugi for example.

And just because young girls sing the theme doesn't mean that the anime has to be for young girls too. After all, their fans aren't young girls only. Smile

Haruhi Suzumiya and Azumanga Daioh are seinen. (Older males)

I'm saying that Tsunku wants to target these young girls into buying their CD's... they have enough male fans... it's not a bad thing.

well, only thing that i can think of now is time, let's just wait for a little longer, but if we looked at a different aspect, Berryz had more mature songs more then C-ute, now i'm worried about both group, i mean do you think Berryz & C-ute will stay long, i mean just imagine if both groups survive like 10 years from now, i won't call C-ute cute anymore, i think Berryz have the chance survive for a long time because their group name are quite similar to like Melon kinenbi? Smile but then if C-ute is going to dissolve then i think Berryz will also dissolve, because i think UF probably is up to something like new units Smile

oh, so you meant really young girls. Laugh

Well, there's dnangel, fruits basket, etc. for shoujo. I think though that when you come out with the anime version of a manga, it reaches out to a broader audience than the intended because of the nature of television. But that's just me.

In any case, is it a fact that it was tsunku that approached the folks behind the anime to do the tie-in because he intended to target very young girls? After all, he has nothing to do with kirari. Is it a calculated move by tsunku or a non-calculated one and they were the ones approached to do the song? Smile
