Wandee |
Wandee Singwangcha is likely to move up to the super-flyweight (115 pound) division and challenge WBC champion Cristian Mijares of Mexico next year, his manager Narit Singwangcha said yesterday.
Narit said that after defeating Fernando Lumacad of the Philippines on Monday Wandee would be placed in WBC's super-flyweight rankings.
WBC president Jose Sulaiman has promised to give Wandee a chance to challenge Mijares, he said.
It is not easy to bring the Mexican to defend his title in Thailand. Hosting the fight may need up to US$150,000 and Narit is willing to pay in the region of US$100,000.
''It would be difficult to fight in Mexico and win,'' said Narit. ''So if the cost is not too high I'd love to pay.''
Mijares, 26, records 33 wins with 14 knockouts and two draws against three defeats.
Narit admitted that moving up to the super-flyweight division, Wandee would be smaller than his opponents.
As a flyweight, Wandee had an impressive record of 54-8-1 (11KOs). However, it would be difficult for him to challenge for the WBC flyweight crown.
Champion Daisuke Naito will defend his belt against Pongsaklek Kratingdaenggym on January 28 in Saraburi, and the next challenger is likely to be Panomroonglek Kratingdaenggym.
Meanwhile, WBC strawweight champion Eagle Den Janlapan, a Japan-based Thai, is looking beyond his all-Thai fight against Oledong Sithsamerchai on November 29 at the 11th Infantry Boxing Arena in Bangkok.
His camp has already planned to have him fight WBA champion Yutaka Niida of Japan after the Oledong bout. Den was scheduled to arrive Thailand late last night.
