WBO STRAWWEIGHT
Cebu City _ Thailand's Pornsawan Porpramook failed in his bid to capture the vacant WBO strawweight title in the Philippines last night when he was outpointed by Filipino Donnie Nietes.
Nietes secured a unanimous 116-110, 115-111, 114-113 decision and also scored a knockdown against the Thai in the fourth round.
The defeat snapped 29-year-old's Pornsawan's spotless 20 fight ledger.
Nietes improves to 24 wins against one defeat and three draws.
The belt was left vacant when Ivan Calderon moved up to challenge for, and win, the WBO light-flyweight crown.
Pornsawan, from Sa Kaeo, will no doubt now be keeping a close eye on the all-Thai WBC strawweight clash between champion Eagle Den Janlaphan and Oledong Sithsamerchai in Bangkok on November 29.
