Interesting analysis as to why Martial struggled earlier in the season (self.reddevils)

In an article posted to r/soccer about the Middlesbrough game. I came across this very interesting point

"In the first few games, he seemed to be struggling because of the deeper position occupied by Manchester United’s Left back( Shaw in most games). This often meant that he was isolated against the opposition fullback and retreating winger. As a result he was getting easily dispossessed. The higher positioning of Blind has helped him maximise his potential."

A great explanation imo as to the early season struggles for Martial and why he was so much better the other day

I don't think any one thing can be claimed, with great confidence, to be the one thing that effected him this season.

Imo it's more likely to be a combination of tiredness (from playing most minutes for us last season + going to Euros with France), mental state (all the shit going on in the press with his ex must have been a bit stressful after his shirt number had been taken away from him too) and new tactics under a new manager.

Hopefully the Middlesbrough game becomes the norm though and not the exception for him this season.
