Driving isn't so bad if you know where you're going - but parking certainly can be a nightmare.

With it being your first time, I'd highly recommend getting the tram from Piccadilly to the Cricket Ground. Just follow the hoards of Reds - it's all part of the experience.

Find a town centre hotel and kip over then head back home the next day.

I'd highly recommend the tram. Especially after the game it's so hard to get out of the area.

I'd take the train, if you drive match day will be busy as fuck, parking a pain etc. Much easier to take the train, relax and enjoy it!

Driving is easier IMHO. Plenty of places near the ground that cost £5 or so. Train can take ages getting out of the ground, ended up queuing for about an hour last year and ended up getting horribly abused by some 12 year old Swansea city fans. Still need to upload the video actually.
