Over the Christmas holiday, I heard a story from my parents about the son of some friends of the family. I knew this guy growing up, we were never close, TBH he was kind of a tool, but my dad and his dad are tight. This guy, Bill, got married out in California this year and my parents went to the wedding.
Bill had been dating this woman, Betty, for 2-3 years before they got married. The wedding was extremely lavish. Expensive resort, massive guest list, etc. etc. My parents said the bride seemed fairly distant, not really wanting to meet any of the groom’s guests, but that was the only thing that they noticed as being odd.
Following the wedding, Bill and Betty went on a similarly extravagant honeymoon. Sometime in Europe, and then down to the Caribbean islands. I got this story from my Dad who got this story from Bill’s father, so I don’t know the exact details, but apparently at some point in the Caribbean Bill noticed that Betty was spending a lot of time on the phone with her girlfriend back in California. Overseas calls being expensive, Bill asked Betty to limit her calls until they got back to the states. Like I said, I’m vague on the exact details but apparently it was enough that Bill started to get suspicious.
Back in the states, we are now three weeks into the marriage. Bill finds out that Betty has been having a sexual affair with this girlfriend, and she has now decided she doesn’t want to be married to Bill. Three weeks after the wedding. She leaves the apartment, but her girlfriend, who is also married, isn’t interested in breaking it off with her own husband, so Betty returns to Bill. At this point, Bill has had enough and initiates divorce proceedings. Last my Dad heard, Betty and her girlfriend eventually moved in together.
Side note, Betty’s mother, who my parents meet at the wedding, was a multiple divorcee herself. She had kids, including Betty, with her first husband, left him for another man who raised her kids, then when the kids hit adulthood she divorced again to marry another man. All three of these guys were at the wedding. It makes you wonder who paid for the wedding.
My parents are telling this story over cocktails on Christmas Eve, and are incredulous that Betty left Bill just three weeks into their wedding for a woman. No one in my family has ever given me a hard time about being a confirmed bachelor, so I return the favor by not lecturing people on feminism and hypergamy, but I did say to them that it wasn’t the first time I’ve heard this type of story. Hell, it plays out almost line for line like the Johnny Depp divorce.
A couple of takeaways for me were the obvious, modern women swing from branch to branch without thoughts for consequences. The wedding ceremony itself is just a chance for her to be princess for a day; it doesn’t require any commitment from her. Even though it was this massive affair that people from all over the country travelled too to shower her with expensive presents, she had no problem lying her whole way through it.
Lastly, I would like to admonish Bill slightly. I know women can be deceptive, and I know guys often want to believe the found “the one” and intentionally ignore the warts, but I have a hard time believing that he wasn’t suspicious about Betty’s relationship with this women prior to the wedding. Like I said, I’m not friends with the guy and I heard this story third hand, but it’s just more proof that MGTOW is a safer and smarter alternative to marriage, at least until modern society starts holding women like this accountable for their dishonest ways.
EDIT: One final note - I was actually glad that my parents, being older and fairly blue pill, actually saw this situation for themselves. Hopefully more and more stories about this bullshit see the light of day and more conversations like this open some eyes.
