In light of the recent conversations around implementing various technologies I was interested to see what everyone's input is for tech in football and perhaps start a discussion.

Personally, my view is a little mixed, I think technology can play a huge impact in augmenting the referees decision making process in areas where making a decision is difficult from their vantage point. Case and point, goal line tech allows referees to call the goals that would otherwise be impossible. However, all this talk about video replays seems very short sighted and papering over the cracks in the PRO organization, the poor refereeing standards and the lack of accountability. Its impossible to expect a ref to be in the correct position to always call a correct goal-line goal, but IMO it is the minimum expectation for them to have the correct position and judgement to call the vast majority of fouls, big or small, inside or outside of the box, correct. With the direction i see some leagues going with video replays I think we will see games significantly slowed down and people will still complain if a ref decided this play or that play did or did not deserve a video replay.
In my view at the end of the day the change needs to happen with the accountability and standards that the PRO organization places on the refs, shit refereeing performances means you get re-evaluated for other high level matches. They, to an extent, should be open to the same criticism that players or coaches get if the performances are not what they should be.

I expect to see tech play a big role in the football world in the near future but not for the tradeoff of what we love most in the game.

TL;DR: Tech in football is good if its augmenting the referees decision making without impacting the flow of the game, not taking accountability away from the referee and the standards set by the PRO org.
