So you're tellin me that $41 million can only pay for 1,100 tuitions?

$9500/year, That's a relatively reasonable price compared to other schools.

*in the US

And I'm just sitting here living in a country where community colleges are basically free 😐

[–]Wouldnt_mind_nudes [スコア非表示]  (2子コメント)

I'm just sitting here in Denmark where all education is free and you can get paid by the government if you're taking an education

*free. I assure you someone is paying for it. Just not you, yet.

Community college is pretty reasonable in the U.S. as well. Not even close to free, but a fraction of the price of a public university.

This. I'm paying 800€ a year for my university and thats only because we get a public transport ticket for the whole state

$9,500 is extremely cheap in the US. Reasonably cheap is at $30k a year.

Hell no it isn't. It's college galore around the $10,000 mark. I would agree if you are talking about out of state or private though.

Yep. Insanity isn't it? Think about what some of these colleges are pulling in a year from their student body at 50k/yr tuition?

[–]Agarax [

$9500 is insanity,

/r/theydidthemath

That's extremely small. 15k tuition for a year is average, but it can go as high as 50k a year.

I think Notre Dame is up to $65k currently for just tuition, not even room and board.

Not counting room and board and other fees. Closer to 70K total for high end, urban colleges.

Damn. We should elect someone to fix that!

Most of the people who voted a certain way listed college affordability as a very low priority, unfortunately.

Baby boomers deep-dicking the next generations again! Awesome!

And the people who did have it high in their priorities wanted it free, not just affordable.

Yeah, and then we have to make everything else even more expensive to cover for it!

Bron's Tots

They should do a reunion just to reshoot that episode with LeBron saving the day.

Its the hardest episode to watch and LeBron would make it at least easy to watch sometimes

Bill Hader said a lot of awesome things about LeBron after Trainwrecked, basically stating he couldn't believe how talented he was.

And now this?!?!

Goddammit LeBron. You're fucking awesome.

If he's so awesome any does he always knock the bulls out of the playoffs?

That finals win since Bill Hader's comments prob counts for something too

... You needed Bill hader to tell you Lebron James was talented?

The news might be uplifting, but let's go through some facts.

LeBron didn't donate $41 million of his own money. His foundation is working together with a school to give kids scholarships:

He announced that he and the University of Akron will sponsor full scholarships for the 1,100 children currently in his I Promise program in Akron, Ohio.

James' has been sponsoring this program for five years and the children range from the third to the seventh grades. If they complete the program and meet attendance and grade requirements, their tuition will be covered by James' foundation and the university starting in 2021, when the current seventh graders in the program graduate high school. A year's tuition at the University of Akron is currently about $9,500.

And if all those kids go through the entire program, the combined cost will be calculated to be around $41 million. That will be split between the school and the foundation (which presumably accepts outside donations).

Also, this news is from last year, so he didn't 'just' donate anything.

Yeah, I can't believe how many people think these kinds of things are personal donations.

So you're telling me that he's doing more than "just" donating money. He's actually setting children up for success and putting time, energy, and resources toward providing children with a path that will allow them to accomplish their goals. Then, only when they've met a high academic standard does he go even further by 'simply' paying their college tuition?

Yeah, this title is soo misleading.

So where does all the money from, you know, the James foundation come from?

His foundation made the donation. Is he the only contributor to that? I honestly don't know. Not that I really care, it's an amazing gift to a lot of people. Just wandering if the title is misleading.

Celebrities rarely donate much to their own foundations. They use their name and celebrity to host meet & greets and auctions and golf tournaments and private events that cost $1000 a plate or $10,000 per golf foursome or whatever to attend

He probably made 40+ million for just endorsing and speaking at Hillary Clintons event in Cleveland.

Maybe you're just being hyperbolic but just in case: No candidate was paying anywhere near $40 million per endorsement.

Actually your wrong. Clinton paid Jay Z and Beyoncé 62 million for their concert and endorsements.

Um... No. Hillary herself is "only" making like a hundred grand for a speech at some big bank. She's not about to pay 40 fucking million for Lebron to come give her a high five on stage, even in a swing state like Ohio.

9500 a year for tuition to a university..! That's really cheap. My local community college is not far off from that price.

Maybe he got a discount for buying in bulk.

I'm pretty sure he did. I believe he worked with Akron to work something out.

What a rip off. My local university is only 4k.

I'm guessing not America?

Actually it is America. And it's a real university, not university of Phoenix or other crap.

Damn, that's crazy. It's roughly 3k-3500 a semester at the local community college near me. 4k a year is almost unheard of for tuition to a university in America.

What is the name of that university? And which course are you taking?

[–]Decyde [

No, there's plenty of places in America that will have you at that price.

At that price they tend to be crap in terms of education. Not all of them, but most of them are.

[–]shitty_username__ [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Again? Didnt he do this a couple of years ago?

Even though LeBron did this amazing act, let's. it forget that the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA finals.

the little James's urban achievers. So you saying he's uh racially cool uh... different mothers and....

That article is impossible to read on mobile.

[–]Gorflub [

Lebron has moved the needle back a bit, but if he still treats kids like this hes still a douche bag in my mind.

https://youtu.be/APObxATFsrQ

I wonder if he would be better off to establish a fund and let the interest pay in perpetuity for minority scholarships? Either way its an incredibly generous thing to do

Voluntarism (read: non-coercion) is amazing. Good on Lebron.

It's like the non-cringe inducing Scott's Tots!

I think this is like the best thing you can do to positively affect the world. Big Brother type programs are great too for non millionaires.

Very generous move. The problem I have (and a problem that's so evident) is that it costs 41 million to send 1,100 kids to college. Wow.

probably mostly black kids, smh if a white pulled the same shit

[–]Aegean [

That's alot of gender studies and art history degrees.

"That's right, kids...go to college so you can get a job that makes less money than me. I never went to college and make 30 million dollars for bouncing a ball. There's another guy that went to Harvard and makes $400,000 for running the country!"

[–]psychedlic_breakfast [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

Hey Mr. James! Whatcha gonna do! Whatcha gonna do! Make our dreams come true.

LeBron James for President: there's proof he actually gives money to charity.

Its hard dislike anyone that does something this generous, wow. Respect.

yeah more college students is what America needs. let them have more useless graduated kids. Also making college free would be absolutely unthinkable.
