How is this trivial? The guy threw a projectile/missile at my car while he was in his car. According to California law, wouldn't he at least get a felony? Also I doubt this is a common theme in road raging which usually consists of people shouting at each other or throwing the middle finger. If the police received a report that something was thrown from one car to another with intent of harming, wouldn't that be enough for them to investigate and arrest the other guy? I don't have video evidence, but I kept the empty gum pack which could be used. I know this might be a stretch but maybe getting the fingerprints on the gum pack or going through surveillance cameras on the street that happened could be useful. Also this happened during traffic so Im pretty sure there were witnesses around?

It wasn't a gum wrapper. It was a GUM PACK and it weighs more than a gum wrapper, probably 100+ gum wrappers = empty gum pack. Of course me being angry at this incident isn't going to make the police arrest the guy, but the action of throwing something at my car on a public road sure is a felony, no? There are articles from washington post where people have been successfully charged with felony for throwing coffee cups at other people on highways. Coffee cups don't really weigh anything either but the guy was charged with a felony.

Ok forget the fingerprints, I already knew it was a stretch. But wouldn't they at least investigate it by going to the site and taking a look at the surveillance footage captured from the shops? There were a lot of cars and people around those stores so finding a witness wont be that difficult. Don't the DAs like cases like these?

Dude, you're asking for the police and DA to spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on resources to pull surveillance footage and investigate and prosecute this? They're not going to. By all means, call the police, they're maybe going to take a report and that's it. There's much worse things happening crime-wise than a gum pack being thrown in a road rage incident. It's not a priority.

You've heard stories about felony coffee cup throwing, but do you know the other factors? Did throwing the coffee cup cause actual damages? Can you cite anything where anyone was found guilty of a felony by throwing a coffee cup where no damage was caused? Which incidentally,a coffee cup could actually cause damage, it's bigger and easy to see so someone might swerve to avoid it and cause an accident, or the liquid could splash on the windshield and impair vision.

We were on a public road. The guy rolled down his window and threw something at my car (ended up being the empty gum pack) and quickly left. I couldn't chase him down because he managed to squeeze through another car and then took a right onto another street.

I read online that throwing a projectile or anything at another car is a felony and can be charged with jail time. So how will nothing happen? I saw his license plate and i know the color and make of his car.

Im glad it wasn't a big item like a rock or coin, but its the fact he threw something at my car that really pisses me off. If I take this issue to the cops wouldnt they at least arrest him? I could provide evidence since I kept the empty gum pack. Also there are surveillance cameras at the shops where it happened. Maybe get some witnesses like a shop manager who saw the incident?
