Evolutionary biology is a fascinating field of study that has much to say about where we came from and where we are heading as a species. As our understanding of biological systems expands scientists are interpreting what we are learning in fields like anthropology in new and surprising ways.
Just as our more sophisticated understanding of genetics has revealed part of the story of speciation and evolution (like our relationship to other species in the great ape family, or overturning our assumption that modern humans outcompeted cro magnon species to extinction with the understanding that we actually absorbed cro magnon man into our species), we continue to get a better picture of just how we got here.
So I'd like to throw out a hypothesis about behavioural evolution, (and specifically human mating strategies), and how the development of modern societies have changed and impacted our behaviour and produced results which are very different than what was seen historically.
I speculate that since human mating strategies evolved in relatively small, largely nomadic tribal groups of hunter/gatherers, that the advent of cities is the fundamental mover in how human pair bonding and mating strategies have changed.
Since evolutionary changes to biology are most often very slow, incremental adaptations to the changing pressures of the environment, and since social changes are much more rapid, this creates a disconnect between our biological imperatives and our social environment such that over time our evolved biology becomes out of step with our social environment which can have unpredictable and often undesirable results.
Most MGTOW will recognize that human female hypergamous mating strategies are a major factor in our success as a species. By constantly seeking the best genetics for their offspring, female hypergamy undoubtedly accelerated our evolution more rapidly than would have otherwise been possible. So for millions of years our hypergamous females mating habits were a massive benefit to our species as a whole by rapidly concentrating the evolutionary changes to our species that became the foundation for modern man.
However...
Female hypergamy itself evolved in a social environment which no longer really exists. The very advances that female hypergamy provided have become less appropriate and even destructive when expressed in the context of modern human society. Unrestricted hypergamy in small societies could lead to ostracism for females which meant almost certain death and a cessation of her genetic line, because her hypergamous behaviour was more easily observable. However as a society grows in size the risks of exposed hypergamy start to decline and eventually reach a point where there are little or no negative consequences.
Therefore, since women's hypergamous mating strategies which benefitted our species throughout our history are largely intact, while the social pressures that tempered its expression have been all but removed because of the social "cover" provided by the massive numbers involved in our modern social groups. With the rise of bigger and bigger cities over time women's hypergamy becomes less and less appropriate and eventually becomes a destructive force for our species.
No doubt it's the technical advances humans have achieved which allow us to make all the amazing changes to our societies and our environment. Many anthropologists speculate that the development of larger city groups over our history was enabled primarily by the invention and use of... soap. This seemingly simple development made it possible for humans to gather in unprecedented numbers for the first time by avoiding the spread of disease which historically devastated groups above a certain population. Many other factors contributed to human social evolution of course, but without soap, none of them would have even been possible.
Therefore the primary reason that female hypergamy is so toxic for modern human society is... soap.
TaDa!
