Tons of nonsense in the specs:

Battery: Lithium - Polymer 35mAh

Battery time: Up to 7 days

So, the ring draws an average of 0.2 mA? Good luck with that.

Vibration motor:

Utilizes MEMS - technology

This doesn't make physical sense. A vibration motor, by its nature, needs to be accelerating a significant mass at a pretty low frequency. MEMS devices are far too small, and vibrate too quickly, to be useful in this application.

SAR level - 2.7mW at maximum. BioRing uses lower power outputs with the current design, normally 1.1mW.

Er… SAR is a measurement of mobile phone RF emissions. It has nothing to do with vibration motors.

Operating temp: -20°C - 65°C (-4°F - 149°F)

Why would a wearable device be expected to operate at these temperatures? If a device that's touching its user's skin reaches -20°C (or 65°C), the owner is almost certainly dead, and no longer cares whether the device is working.

It's for the coroner. Just needs to pick up the cell phone and he can immediately tell when you died, at -20°C probably from freezing to death.

"get 4 friends to order and you will be refunded on one BioRing! "

They went full ponzi

[–]splenetic 14ポイント15ポイント  (5子コメント)

They've put an apparently huge amount of effort into producing different versions made out of different materials - silver, gold, and now matte black plastic(?) And each time they get existing backers to donate even more to get these "special" editions.

Yet they haven't spent nearly as much time showing that they've even built a working prototype let alone refined it into something that can be manufactured in bulk.

But the marketing geniuses of Herscue & Goldsilver (how odd, my phone tried to correct that to "Gold-digger") are behind it so I'm sure everything's on track for the successful and timely shipping of rewards to the backers.

It's amazing, 1,772 people have thrown away 400K and don't understand that it's not possible for a ring to measure water levels, calorie intake, etc on a ring, let alone know that there's no way a ring could do all those things with such a thin band or without any other attachments/power supply. Even if it managed to fit those sensors and supply within the ring, just because your wearable knows you've raised your hand to your mouth, doesn't mean it knows you ate a shit ton of celery sticks and not Red Vines.

[–]username_lookup_fail 13ポイント14ポイント  (0子コメント)

But it has a revolutionary bio-impedence sensor that can tell exactly what you are eating at all times. We are living in the future, remember?

They should add a stretch goal. If the ring senses you are eating junk food it should shock you.

BTW, Mr. Pibb and Red Vines = crazy delicious!

Why do stupid people have this much money? This just pisses me off. If I were less ethical I'd start my own scam and start collecting $$$.

Lol, smartyring promised shipping by August, i guess that's not gonna happen either.

[–]zrnkv 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

It's sad that in the comments some people still believe that they will ship something eventually.

If people can believe this works I'll have no problem being elected president.

It can measure how much food I'm eating and how much I sleep and its power source lasts 7 days? Wow, this thing really IS magic! I'm not sure I should bother buying one when it obviously has to be recharged by fairies running on a treadmill made of unicorn dreams.

[–]StinkinBadges 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Is this a ring or my wife?

[–]MistressOfAllPixels 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I try to always find out about the unicorn dreams treadmill before making the big commitments, personally.

Oh good another damn fitness tracker / magical ring!

This quantified life nonsense needs to stop

lol. the "actual UI and production sketches" are just terrible. I teach product design at a technical college and that shit would not fly for my first year students. I love how they use graph paper to do pictures of GUI design to try and make it look more technical. I would've thought the scammers would at least have gotten the guys who did the shitty computer renders to do some decent sketches for them.

And let's take some pictures of a machine shop and dudes in clean room gear looking to spectroscopes to make it seem more scientific.

How is an optical LED sensor meant to work through an opaque ring?

How is anyone who is old enough to own a credit card buying into this? almost 1/2 $millon!?!

Backer here. I wasn't concerned with the activity/calorie/magic tracking I simply wanted the ring form-factor for notifications. I'm posting this here hopefully to help someone else make a well informed decision.

There is talk of a employee/ex-employee that is claiming they've already cashed out and are going to cut and run. That the campaign is a scam and no product will ever come to fruition. The campaigners claim that this person is disgruntled and is likely trying to smear the campaign. However I've been following the comments and myself and many of the other backers have been making very basic requests for updates, pictures, videos, a rudimentary app demo etc... to no avail. The campaigner is very responsive but regularly posts vague circular replies referring back to the same story page and the two month old Youtube videos. The last straw was that for the most recent "perk" is a $35 dollar option to return your ring if it doesn't fit or you want to return it. I'm not saying it's a scam but it's starting to look more and more so.

I'm not totally sold that I've lost my money, but I would NOT recommend anyone support the BioRing campaign.

There is no way this is manufacturable at that price in those timelines. This isn't going to happen.

[–]gurran1 0ポイント1ポイント  (2子コメント)

I watched their demo and looked at their page and I think it looks very legit. I honestly don't know what you guys are talking about. It is like you just make snap judgments without having any information really.

  • Referral links to other campaigns in their latest updates
  • Incentive for roping 4 friends into buying

Even if I believed the science behind this thing, these 2 reasons are enough to turn me away.
