6/10, bad league result this year (we achieved our goal of CL football last year), 1 trophy (assuming we win), and an overhauled squad filled with promising youth players. This also takes into account my relatively low expectations when he first came in.

Pretty much this. We also have a squad that is at least very defensively solid and well drilled.

A complete waste of two years imo. + David Moyes season to that and we have basically been in a limbo for 3 years with very little progression at all.

I really wish we tried harder to get Klopp in 2014 instead of going for the only guy who was available in LVG. Klopp suits the clubs "traditional" style of football much better and I believe if we had given him £250m, he would have won us the title this season or at least challenge for it.

In response to your and OP question: "a complete waste of 2 years" cannot be concluded until we see the team in another 2 years (lets say) when we can see if what LvG has done, caused any long-term effects. (for better or worse).

In a few years people may be pointing out (given this is all sound and came true) how Rashford, Martial, Depay, Smalling ,DDG are all products of a well drilled and well focused manager.

Others like yourself (if it turns out to be sour for Martial, Rashford etc...) will claim a number of reasons it didn't work for him here and that he was a fraud since the beginning.

Everyone has a perspective and the only objective way to look at his time here is to say -

He failed to meet his requirements.

He has been unfortunate with injuries.

The league this year has turned the most experienced of managers to become confused with their own tactics. Not a help for LvG.

An overhaul is a big job. Especially at this club and replacing the spine of the club with new players, in a new country, in a new team, in a new system under a new manager. This can make it hard for any manager but LvG has not succeeded.

It would depend on how much of the current team are part of our future success. If Mourinho comes in and wins the league with DDG, Darmian, Smalling, New CB, Shaw, Schneiderlein, New CM signing, Martial, Rooney, new RW or Rashford or Lingard or Memphis and Ibra of Rashford, then he'll have done a pretty decent job

With Euros around the corner it was pointed out to me that since this season under LVG; Schneiderlin, Darmian, Mata & Carrick have failed to make the 23 man squad for their respective national teams, having been previously involved during the qualifiers...

It's just been posted that we scored less goals this season than Sunderland & Chelsea with 46. We scored 62 goals last season...

Last season we conceded 37 goals, 11 clean sheets. This season we've conceded 34, 18 clean sheets.

Last season, LVG handed debuts to 7 youth players. This season he gave debuts to 7 again.

Last season our longest streak unbeaten was 10 games. This season it's been 7.

Last season we won 20 games, drew 10, lost 8. This season we've won 18 (maybe 19), drawn 9, lost 10.

In summary; with a win tonight i'd rate this season as having regressed from last season, but with a steady stream of youth players coming in and a slightly better defence with DDG still improving.

The squad is much saner and healthier. The actual on pitch performances no better. A better coach will do more with this squad. As much as it isn't good enough to compete for the league regularly it is good enough to secure 3rd/4th.

We've gone backwards to go forwards but we should be further along right now than we are. I think it is fair to blame LVG for that.

Little improvements, but a good set of youngster came trough under him and that's positive for the future. He was better than Moyes, we have some defensive stability now.
