Assistant Professor (Dept. of Architecture) at the University of Tokyo School of Engineering; Guest Professor at Yale University; part-time lecturer at the Tokyo University of Science's Graduate School of Engineering (Dept. of Architecture).
Born in 1973 in Germany but holds Turkish citizenship. Completed the NASA astronaut training program in 2001, and in 2004 became the first Turkish person to be selected as a candidate astronaut. Has received the U.S. Technology Award, the physics award of Cambridge University and the American Medal of Honor.

Currently working on the "Infra-Free Life" project to develop homes and living spaces designed to function independently of infrastructure and utilities by employing the latest technologies. Author of Space Elevator (published by Yamato Shobo) and The Time Machine (published by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc) .
