Global Melting

As the Earth warms, its ice melts. This global melting is an early and obvious sign of climate change, but its implications go far beyond merely losing snow and ice. For starters, some people and ecosystems depend on the ice - glaciers for water supply in areas of seasonal rainfall, for example, and sea ice for habitat.

Sparse, ineffective, woefully inadequate – now will you take action?

Today’s United Nations Secretary General’s report of measures taken by states to protect vulnerable deep-sea life from destructive fishing practices such as high seas bottom trawling has confirmed that the protection these areas receive is woefully inadequate and that urgent action is required now by the international community.

Salmon farming

In Chile alone, the export revenue generated from salmon farming now exceeds US$1 billion each year, a figure that is expected to double in the next few years. Supporters of industrial fish farming have long asserted that this so-called 'blue revolution' is both cheap and a sustainable alternative to the consumption of highly depleted wild-caught fish species
