A MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID LACQUER KANG TABLE, KANGJI
QING DYNASTY, 17TH/18TH CENTURY

The square upper surface inlaid in mother-of-pearl against a black lacquer ground depicting Liu Hai playing with a three-legged toad beneath a gnarled pine tree, surrounded by sages, deer, a turtle and a crane in-flight above, the scroll apron decorated with flower sprigs and a pair of Buddhistic lions with long ribbons grasped in their mouths attached to a brocade ball, all resting on four 'C'-curved short legs
