Yea, I remember you telling me! Takeshi is one of the hottest guys I've ever come across. Drooling

I don't know anything about Golden Bowl but if you think it's cool, that's saying something! I've been lucky lately with the dramas I've been watching. Victory! Peace!

i am not by any means arbiter of all things cool..but we seem to share a sentiment that the older dramas tend to be better. hitomi kuroki of oyaji, otousan, and other dramas is the female lead...she's a great actress.

She doesn't like to look old tho. There was this show where she needed to look like a grand-mother. IIRC, her older self. She didn't want to look old, so instead of having makeup to add 30 years, she just wore a gray hair wig, but still had perfectly smooth skin. hehe

that show was dayem funneeh...about Hitomi

--------------------------------------------------------------------

From the Mainichi Daily News.

Fresh-faced drama queen told to act her age

Hitomi Kuroki should "take a leaf out of the books of Hollywood actresses, who'll make themselves look really fat or really ugly ..."
Japan's 40-something empress of the airwaves is copping flak for refusing to use make-up that will make her look old, according to Shukan Jitsuwa (11/17).

Hitomi Kuroki is arguably Japan's hottest female performer, with the wildly popular 45-year-old roundly praised for her cheerful attitude and knockout looks.

But it's a different matter when it comes to Kuroki's thespianism.

Kuroki's attitude to acting is coming under fire, with TV drama production insiders accusing her of putting on airs by refusing to allow herself to be made up to look older than she really is.

"She acts the same in every role," Shukan Jitsuwa hears from a young producer with network TBS, which is making Kuroki's current show "Koi no Jikan."

"When she appeared in (another TV drama) 'Namida Soso,' she played the part of an elderly woman, but all she did to make herself look older was wear this ridiculous looking white wig. There wasn't a single wrinkle on her face at all. I suppose she thinks she can get by with her acting skills, but she really should take a leaf out of the books of Hollywood actresses, who'll make themselves look really fat or really ugly if that's what the part involves. I suppose she thinks that wearing the wig's enough."

Kuroki also played a grandmother figure in yet another drama last year, "Sato Kibiki Batake no Uta," in which she performed alongside Sanma Akashiya for NTV.

"She didn't have any make-up wrinkles when she performed then, either," a producer with NTV tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "There's no realism to her performances, which detracts from the atmosphere created in other parts of the show. I don't know what she's thinking."

A Kuroki pal offers little support for the actress, who first made her name as a performer in the Takarazuka all-girl dance troupe more than two decades ago.

"She probably thinks that being convincing in the role of an old lady is all she needs to make the part work," the buddy says. "That's fine if her acting is up to scratch. Frankly, though, Kuroki's acting career basically ended when she left Takarazuka. Everybody around her keeps telling her what a great housewife role she plays and now she probably thinks she's a fantastic actress."

The unnamed friend tells the men's weekly that despite the doubts about Kuroki's performances, there's little likelihood that anybody will approach her about them directly.

"Kuroki has the backing of a really powerful producer known as a 'TV drama genius.' Network executives love the guy and give him whatever he wants," the buddy tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "I'd love to be able to tell the producer that Kuroki has him right where she wants him." (By Ryann Connell)

I finished Golden Bowl epi 1. A lot of plot right off the bat, which is good, but a little uninteresting so far. Takeshi is GOREGOUS. Smitten

Watched ep 8 of Blackjack ni Yoroshiku ...this show has been very intense so far, but this episode just turned it up to volume 11...
The BGM has so perfectly matched whats happening in the show, even though they're set pieces...beautiful work by the composer...
sadly, thtl tells me the OST is not available...

Caught up with Ushi ni Negai Wo to episode 9.

Anyways, not 100% sure which shows I'm going to watch this season so far, but here's what I'm aiming for in order:

#1) Iryu 2
#2) SP
#3) Utahime
#4) Dream Again
#5) Mop Girl

Obviously I'm going to check out the first episodes of the other shows and all, but the only show I was really excited about based on announcement was the obvious Iryu 2. SP sounds great on paper and the trailer was interesting. The rest...well, it's basically the star power drawing me to them to see if they're any good.

Here's to hoping in the very least Iryu 2 is subbed quickly so I can enjoy it. I loved the first season and am dying to get into it. Kinda wish it wasn't B.O.N. that took on the show though...they've always been kinda slow IMHO with translations, quality check aside.

Watched most of the 1st episodes of this season's dramas aired last week (except 'Ryokan 2' and ' hatachi no koibito'). Here's some of my initial thoughts:

The 2 hr season premiere of 'Iryu 2' is not bad, in fact most people lauded it as more exciting than any ep. in season 1. I didn't think it was that great. It basically followed in the same mold as the last 2 ep. of season 1 (where it deviated from the manga); just more melodrama, more difficult surgeries(and lots of them). There's just something amiss that I can't pinpoint at the moment; the original script, the 'deja vu'-ness, the logic (or lack of it), the sappy melodrama, the music, the lack of edginess and aplomb that season 1 possessed in abundance, etc.. It's like I'm watching it as a casual bystander devoid of emotion.

'Mop Girl' seems to be ok if you're looking for light entertainment and are a fan of Kitagawa.

'Dream again'...well, just say I'll reserve my comments until I've watched a few more episodes.

'Utahime' I've no idea where the story is heading because I fast forwarded a lot; may be I should go back and rewatch it after I've accumulated a few more episodes.

'Hataraki Man' is very disappointing; I'll give it another 2 episodes.

Sounds like it may be what I was slightly afraid of: the absense of Inamori Izumi's character of Katou Aki may have not filled out as well as it could've with Uchida Yuki's new role. The somewhat icy nature of Katou was a balance to the rest of the cast really, and with the replacement being one whom is known for...well, not being that...left me kinda worried.

I'm coming into the 2nd season fully preparing myself for it to be more of the same and possibly not meeting expectations, since that's what basically all other series with more than one season usually does, lol. After watching a full 12 hours of it before, running into the next season kinda will blur the lines (I know I did, I watched the first 10 minutes after finishing up the finale of Season 1 for the second time and it felt that way, lol).

Quote:

I'm expecting it to be a ripoff of 'Tru Calling' with Kitagawa replacing Eliza Dushku. I liked that show somewhat, and since we're adding Japanese pop culture references and I am a fan of Kitagawa, sounds like this one'll at least be a counterbalance to the potential over-dramaticism that Iryu 2 will have.

Quote:

Perfectly understandable. I'm basically only watching the series for Sorimachi, otherwise I probably would've avoided the "Heaven Can Wait" Japanese style (hmmm, seems the J-Drama this season is dipping too much into Western culture again...no wonder the shows don't seem all that promising, lol). If it doesn't turn around, I have no problem abandoning ship.

Quote:

Hmmm, well either the pacing is slow or you're too impatient, lol. That's okay, I felt the same way about Tiger & Dragon until I slowed my ass down and actually watched the show. Thought it was boring until I paid attention to the details.

Quote:

I was going to start watching that, maybe I should try out the first episode to see if I agree or not. I'll take your word for it though, it didn't seem all that good on paper either.

Overall...well, I'm not that surprised, since the fall season seemed rather weak in the first place. At least there will be one series to rely on as not being absolutely horrible. The rest...well, I can always find shows I haven't watched yet. Beaten
