Yosuke Kubozuka was born on May 7, 1979 in Yokosuka/Kanagawa, Japan. Takayasu Kubozuka, his father, his the Head of Dept at a Nissan Motors research team. He also has a younger brother, Shunsuke, who's an actor as well (for example Saishu Heiki Kanojo live action movie) and a 10 years younger brother as well it seems. Yosuke graduated from Kanagawa's Yokosuka Senior High.

He seems very involved with environmental issues, world peace and rumor has it, the legalization of marihuana (frankly, why prohibit pot while alcohol and cigarettes are legal and just as dangerous?). And he can't cook.

He's married to Non-chan, a raggae dancer, since 2003 and they had a son, Airu, the same year. His son's birth got his blood boiling and I guess that's why he kicked a paparazzi that day^^; Well, I'd probably do the same. As for their marriage, it finally took place after 2 consecutive failures because he kept forgetting important documents...

His hobbies seem to be, among others, painting, writing, watching movies and swimming/snorkling. His favourite places are Shibuya, Yokosuka and his own room. He's also often found designing clothes. He's once been to Milan to learn the art of making hats. Here, he's busy designing shoes:

Favourite quote: "Fuck the system" - couldn't agree more.
    He also says "therefor" (dakara), "somehow" (nanka) and "after all" (kekkyoku) alot. Pay attention, it really stands out^^;

Favourite food: Hamburgers, natto,... Jezus... (that last one's my remark, not his fave food)

His character is something else. His deep, big eyes betray alot of different strong emotions, they are what make his face so expressive. In fact, he seems to have quite a temper, in both good and bad ways. He can yell at people as loud as he can laugh. He also seems to have a hard time deciding on whether to use polite or non-polite speech (a rather important matter in Japanese society). He's interesting to listen to, yet funny at the same time. He seems to be quite intelligent, yet romantic and emotional. The death of his grandma was a harsh blow for him. I think Yosuke is a very likeable person, but deserves some respect. But frankly, I like him for his temper. Makes him human ;)

On June 6, 2004, both he and his career experienced a rough landing on Japan's harsh asphalt of stardom. Apparantly while detaching carp streamers, he fell off the balcony of his 9th floor apartment in Yokosuka/Kanagawa. He miraculously survived the 26-meter fall. Actually, the poor guy didn't even pass out and was taken to hospital whining about pain (d'uh). He was lucky to have his fall cushioned by a fence 9 meters away from the building. Below is an image of his injuries.

1 fracture in the right leg, 2 in the left, a broken left wrist and a skull fracture.

Below is an article from →Mainichi about both the fall and other little woopsies:

Kubozuka's popularity takes dive after nine-story fall

Bad boy actor Yosuke Kubozuka may have miraculous survived a nine-story fall from his Yokosuka apartment, but even if he wasn't trying to commit suicide, his career standing in Japan's fickle entertainment world can expect to plummet, according to Shukan Jitsuwa.

Kubozuka amazingly walked away with just a few broken bones after his 26-meter plunge on June 6, but now conjecture is rife over whether he deliberately jumped or accidentally fell.

His handlers are saying he fell while he was trying to untie carp streamers he'd put up for his young son, but I think you can look at the incident as a botched suicide attempt," a celebrity world insider tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "There're a couple of weird things about what happened. A fence about 9 meters away from the apartment cushioned his fall before he landed on a patch of grass. He must have been traveling at a huge speed when he jumped to have been able to hit that fence before reaching the ground. If he'd only fallen, as his handlers claim, he would have landed just a few meters away from the apartment at best. A woman who saw the whole thing has told reporters she saw things so shocking she hasn't got the courage to put them into words. It's almost as though she's being told the keep quiet in case she says something that will destroy Kubozuka's career."

Not that there seems too much to get rid of anyway.

The firebrand 25-year-old has earned a reputation for blowing his top at the slightest provocation. Those who know him say it wouldn't be out of character to attempt suicide as he threatened to take his own life several times before following arguments with his wife.

Kubozuka is also violent, having attacked a paparazzi cameraman in October last year. His victim pressed charges and Kubozuka escaped jail only by paying hush money to his victim and a 100,000 yen fine in cops' coffers.

He later appeared on TV in a T-shirt swathed in obscenities directed at the media, and further cultivated his bad boy image by speaking out publicly on behalf of marijuana, a weed most Japanese equate with hard drugs, as Sir Paul McCartney knows better than most.

Kubozuka's tarnished name had already made it hard for him to get work.

"When his son was born in October last year, he announced that he was taking paternity leave and spent much of his time at home. But, that was only because he couldn't find any work. Nobody wanted him to do any acting for TV dramas at all," a TV industry source says. "Kubozuka's handlers were trying to flog him off to TV shows other than dramas. He got one travel show, but caused so much trouble while they were making it that he's unlikely to ever get another program like that again."

At one time, Kubozuka boasted of having lucrative endorsement deals with seven companies, but now he has none. A movie released last month flopped so badly, it failed to recoup its costs. Whatever really happened in Kubozuka's apartment last week, it's hardly likely advertisers are going to be knocking down his door.

"Any work that has a contract including a good behavior clause," an ad agency insider tells Shukan Jitsuwa. "will automatically exclude Kubozuka from the running."
