VALRICO, FL -- The pastor of a predominately African-American church in Valrico says a "lynching station" with a noose was erected outside his church some time over the weekend.

Pastor Antonio Hawkins says he was "disturbed" by what he found in the backyard of Exciting Faith Alive in Valrico.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating and says the person or persons responsible could be charged with trespassing. A hate crime enhancer could also be added to the charge.

Hawkins says Faith Alive has about 330 members and that the church moved to Valrico from Tampa back in October.

No note was left with the display, but Hawkins and other members of the congregation say the message is very clear. He says it's one of "hate."

The "lynching station" was made from items laying around the church, like tires, PVC piping and wood. A vine was used to make the noose.
