THE mayor of London's plans to study the potential benefits of an amnesty for illegal immigrants have been described as "naive" by the Government.
Boris Johnson reopened the debate over how to deal with hundreds of thousands of people working illegally in the UK, insisting that simply deporting them was "not going to happen".

Johnson's comments risk opening a rift between himself and Tory leader David Cameron, with whom he openly clashed on the issue of an amnesty earlier this year.

Speaking to Channel 4 News, the Conservative mayor said that allowing long-term illegal immigrants to earn the right to stay in Britain would see "hugely increased" tax revenues. Of the 700,000 thought to be working illegally in the UK, about 400,000 are in London.

However, Immigration minister Phil Woolas said: "His comments might start with the best of intentions but will lead to more people traffickers making more money and exploiting more vulnerable individuals."

This has been covered over at the Guardian. Reading some of the comments is frightening. It's hard to believe there are people who are so soft in the head that they think the unfettered immigration/multicultural policies is so wonderful. There are living in la-la land.

As to Boris, it's good to see proof that also Tory politicians put the good of their careers above that of the country.

Unfettered immigration is still the policy of the Labour party - votes, votes, votes.

Despite all the noises they make to placate those of us concerned at the level of immigration nothing will really happen - again - as they try to look good. Fortunately the British people are not all insane dupes. Let's hope this is reflected in the General Election.

l think Johnson is making sense in calling for Amnesty for all the undocumented illegals in the UK.
the government needs to think more about what they will gain than what will be paid to send them home without gaining anything,
the economic situation in the UK now, is not the time to use resource wayward
l have been in the UK for almost 23 years and work as a snr carer and my Adult son been in UK for almost five years the home office refuses to grant him resident permit because he is an adult and forgetting that we families and can not be divided, yet the home office ask him to keep reporting every week without working.
how can he support me also in times of this bad economic situation.
So l think its best the government think over again and take Boris suggestions.
Also the Homes Minister need to be sack
