The U.S., Japan and China are the world top three economies. They become more and more strategically interdependent. Each of these powers is increasingly sensitive to changes of capabilities and policies of the others. It is necessary to have multi-lingual inter-disciplinary background, knowledge and experience to understand the global significance of contemporary developments in the Asia/Pacific region.
In December 1997, a small group of Chinese researchers, scientists, economists, and engineers residing mainly in Silicon Valley with Japan study/work experience started US-Japan-China Comparative Policy Research Institute (CPRI), an independent think tank focusing on comparative social, economical, political, and industrial policy issues concerning the US-Japan-China interactions.
CPRI is the only think tank in the world to independently, specifically and comprehensively review, analyze, and serve the dynamic tripod interactions undergoing among the U.S., Japan and China. Meanwhile, objectively introducing some less noticed yet important issues of one language to other languages is another critical task of CPRI. CPRI has established international network, exchanges and cooperation with similar institutes/individuals in the U.S., Japan, China (including Hong Kong, Taiwan), Canada, France, Germany, the U.K., Spain, Australia, Austria, Denmark, the Netherlands, India, Korea, Malaysia and other regions.
Japan's National Institute for Research Advancement lists CPRI in its "World Directory of Think Tanks" 2005 Edition.
CPRI was incorporated in California State as a non-profit educational public benefit corporation in January 2002 and was granted tax-exempt status in March 2002 by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the U.S. Treasury Department, as an organization described in Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).
CPRI issues Comparative Policy Review, an annual collection of CPRI published writings. Issues I - XI have been published on December 31 of 1997 - 2007. CPRI has published books on the US-Japan Alliance, Social Forms Study, and other writings. Most of them are available both online and in hard copies. From June 1999, CPRI started distributing free Comparative Policy Review Newsletter through email. Readers can subscribe directly through http://groups.yahoo.com/group/US-JAPAN-CHINA.
CPRI also provides public lectures, articles and interviews through media (such as Voice of America, British Broadcasting Company, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Radio Free Asia, Radio Free Europe, Austrilia National Broadcasting, Sound of Hope and local San Francisco Bay Area channels), educational institutes (such as H-Net), magazines and international research institutes (such as Sino-Japanese Studies, Spain's Contemporary History Association, Japan's Research Commission on the Constitution).
CPRI also provides advanced inter-disciplinary strategic consulting service in the fields of international trade, comparative industry policy, Asia Pacific cooperation, humanitarian tasks, and democracy & human rights.
CPRI welcomes cooperation with other individuals or institutes of similar missions.
