"Demon mother" Chizuko Okamoto alleged architect of "apartment of agony"
Chizuko Okamoto, dubbed the "demon mother," is at the center of a sordid spate of killings that have created a suburban Japanese "apartment of agony," judging by Shukan Shincho (5/18).
During the Golden Week series of national holidays in late April and early May, police unearthed the bodies of Rikako Okamoto, the "demon mother's" 19-year-old daughter, Minehiro Yamauchi, Rikako's stepbrother and the 35-year-old son of her former live-in lover, and three as yet unidentified young children's corpses, one of which is strongly suspected of being a little boy Okamoto tearfully claimed had been snatched away from her 23 years ago.
Initially, investigators believed Minehiro Yamauchi, the son of Okamoto's old boyfriend, had killed Okamoto's daughter and then taken his own life. The reality has proved to be even more sinister.
