Man arrested for giving high school girl stimulants under guise of cold medicine

KAWANISHI, Hyogo -- An employee at a major water heater manufacturer has been arrested for giving a high school girl stimulants that he falsely described as cold medicine, police said.

Atsutoshi Masuda, 49, a department manager-level employee at Noritz Corp., stands accused of violating the Stimulants Control Law. Local police are questioning him over the motives behind his alleged crime.

Masuda gave a capsule containing 0.1 grams of stimulants to the 16-year-old girl he had got acquainted with through an online matchmaking site in a car parked in Kawanishi in April, saying it was cold medicine, according to investigators.

After she swallowed the capsule, he let her go home because she said she felt high. Her parents took her to hospital and hospital officials alerted police.
