Japan Temple Vandalized After Declining Olympic Relay, AFP Says

By Mayumi Otsuma

April 20 (Bloomberg) -- A Japanese Buddhist temple was vandalized with white spray paint after it declined to host the Olympic torch relay, Agence France-Press said, citing an unidentified police spokesman.

Zenkoji Temple in Nagano Prefecture, northern Japan, refused to serve as the starting point for the torch relay on April 26.

Six white spray paint graffiti patterns were found on pillars and sliding doors at the main sanctuary of the 1,400- year-old temple early today, AFP said. Police have yet to ascertain whether the act was related to the torch relay, AFP said, citing the spokesman.
