Denkaosan holds on to stop Orais

Julian Turner

Denkaosan Kaovichit
Denkaosan Kaovichit had to overcome a badly cut left eye to capture the vacant WBC-affiliated Asian Boxing Council flyweight title in Nonthaburi yesterday.

Thirty-two year-old Denkaosan eventually stopped Filipino journeyman Rey Orais in the third round with a body attack, but could be out for some time while the wound heals.

The Samui-born fighter's record improved to 42 wins against one defeat and one draw.

Denkaosan is aiming for the WBC title after failing to gain a rematch with WBA flyweight champion Takefumi Sakata, who he controversially drew with in Saitama, Japan last October.

Japan's Daisuke Naito is the WBC flyweight champion and Denkaosan is ranked 10th by the organisation.
