Yodsanan pleases the crowd on afternoon of stoppages

EDWARD THANGARAJAH

Four important fights and all four ended in short route victories yesterday at Nakhon Sawan. The programme was organised by the Nakhon Sawan Administration with the co-operation of the Petchyindee Boxing Promotion to celebrate His Majesty the King's 80th Birthday. A fanfare of trumpets and the beating of drums greeted the action.

Of the four main bouts, the lightweight contest between former WBA super-featherwight champion Yodsanan Sithyodthong and Japanese opponent Mitzuro Okubo earned the loudest cheers.

Both produced action of the highest order before Yodsanan who was forced to defend stout-heartedly early in the fight, came out ot the shell and outpunched his opponent to a standstill. The four-round contest ended in 1:10 of the fourth round with Okubo unable to take the hard punches landed by his opponent.

The referee Banpote Senparb was forced to summon the ring-doctor, Dr Thananant Issarangkul ne Aydhaya to take a look at the Okubo.

Yodsanan who was forced to defend hard in the first three rounds, finally earned a good victory.

Okubo was given 10 minutes rest before he was allowed to return to his dressing room.

Yodsanan is currently campaigning in the World Boxing Council's lightweight division.

The overweight flyweight contest between Panomrunglek Kratingdaeng and Indonesia's Dolfi Lolaru did not come up to expectations.

Panomrunglek, who was bold enough to take the fight to his opponent, registered a fourth round technical knockout win over over Lolaru.

Earlier in the afternoon former flyweight world champion, Chatchai Sasakul made short work of Indonesia's Anis Rosifin whom he stopped in 1:32 minutes of the second round. Chatchai gave away much in height and reach but outboxed his limited oppponent.

Former WBC youth Fahpetchanoi Sor Chitrapatana soaked up a few punches from his Thai opponent Yodpetch Bangpho 2000 but came back in the third round and drove some excellent left and right hooks to stop his opponent in 1:40 of the third round.

More than 5,000 fans stood in the hot sun and enjoyed the action.
